Keeping Your Pet Entertained During Bad Weather Indoors

Just like humans, pets need to stay physically and mentally active to remain happy and healthy. So, when the weather outside is frightful, it can be less than delightful for either one of you. Pets can become easily bored, which can negatively affect their behavior. While they're sometimes happy to curl up on the couch or look out the window, sometimes they need more.

Indoor Activities to do With Your Pet

Indoor activities with your pet don't need to be expensive or elaborate. Many times you can use simple household objects to keep your buddy entertained - you’ll probably end up having just as much fun too! Some things to do include:

•             Designing an obstacle course - use furniture cushions, blankets, boxes, and other items to create a fun path for your pet to conquer. Make sure there's a treat at the end!

•             Teach a New Trick - take the bad weather as an opportunity to teach your pet how to stand on its hind legs, shake hands, or catch a toy in the air.

•             Play Tug of War - no dog on earth doesn't enjoy a good game of tug. Grab some old rope, towel, or sheet and go to town.

•             Play Fetch - grab a soft toy or even ball up some paper and throw it around for your pet to chase. If they don't know already, this is a great time to work on them bringing it back to you.

•             Socialize - get together with a friend or neighbor who has a dog and let them play the day away.

•             Spend Quality Time Together - After your physical activity is done, settle into the couch with a snack you can both eat (carrots, watermelon, cucumber) and chill on the couch and cuddle.
