Tips and Tricks for Traveling with Pets
At Brandywine Veterinary Hospital, we proudly serve two locations in Chadds Ford, PA, and Greenville, DE. Our animal hospital offers a range of services from wellness exams and pain management to dental care and allergies. Should you choose to vacation with your pet, we are happy to provide you with the following tips and tricks to help make traveling with your pet easier.
Plan Ahead
If you know your pet is coming with you, it's important to plan the trip so you can better accommodate them. You want to reduce the amount of stress on yourself while maintaining your pet’s safety.
Pack a Pet Bag
Ensure you have everything your pet will need including: food, bowls, litter and box, poop bags, leashes, collars, treats, toys, bedding, and medication.
Visit a Veterinarian
Before leaving, you may want to stop by the vet to ensure your pet is healthy for traveling and up to date on vaccinations. Tell us of your plans and we may prescribe medication for motion sickness or anxiety.
Take a Carrier or Crate
Even if you don't plan on using them, it's a good idea to have a carrier for emergencies like evacuation. Also, your pet may become upset and having a crate can help give them a safe place.
Choose Pet Friendly Activities
Nobody likes to get left behind, including our pets. Choose activities that will allow them to be outdoors and get exercise while spending time with you. Beaches, lakes, hiking, and outdoor eateries can be good choices.
